Now

We continue to be the leading student orginization fighting for this crucial issue. Our club currently sits just above 80 members, and we are always welcoming new students into our team. We aregearing up for this school year of advocacy and need you to join the fight!

Spring 2026

Our club takes not one but TWO trips to Sacramento. 45 total round trip flights put our students into the action, giving them an unparalleled oppourtunity to influence statewide public policy as high school advocates. Our club presents an official TedX presentation and we work alongside the "Youth Circle Initiative" to present our annual Earth Day Community Forum. We develop our future leadership team for a sustainable program of true, hands-on civic education and advocacy for our community.

Fall 2025

Our club interacts with nearly five thousand community members as a part of the Coronado Public Safety Open house. A dozen students have spoken before the California Coastal Commission to demand attention and remedy, working alongside students from the Youth Circle Initiative. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors awards us with a proclamation for our hard work, and December 9th 2025 is now CHS Stop The Sewage Day across all of San Diego County.

Spring 2025

We host our first annual Earth Day Community Forum, participate in our second California Oceans Day, and win CUSD Club of the Year for a second time. Throughout our efforts, our club surpasses 60 members, and becomes the largest student-run club on CHS campus.

Fall 2024

We speak before the Coronado City Council to demand a Declaration of Emergency for the crisis. After an initial Council vote to deny a state of emergency, our team jumped into action, formed a petition with 450 signatures, and pushed the City Council until they accepted that the community both desired and deserved a State of Emergency to bring their voice into this fight.

Spring 2024

Our club travels for our first California Oceans Day, lobbying for crucial legislation to ease the sewage crisis back at home. We work alongside the CUSD governing board to build a letter writing campaign across all four schools to deliver nearly 500 letters to the state capitol. For our efforts we are awarded the CUSD Club of the Year for the 2023-2024 school year.

Fall 2023

After a very successful first public protest on Coronado's Central beach to draw attention to this crisis, we begin holding monthly club meetings, hosting guest speakers, and speaking out in the community. We work with the Wyland Foundation to give ocean education lessons to hundreds of 3rd through 5th graders. Next stop, California Coastal Commission!

Summer 2023

Our Origin Story

Students from the class of 2025 and 2026 meet with Laura Wilkinson Sinton, founder of StopTheSewage.org and Marely Ramirez, Community Activist and STS Board member, after witnessing the very first public beach protest action in Coronado over Memorial Day weekend. We promptly get to work planning our chartered club at CHS, our first student-led beach protest, learning how to firmly "petition the government for redress" and demand action on our environment, working with media and growing our club numbers within the halls of Coronado High School and the hearts of Coronado beach lovers everywhere.
